I woke up this morning and I was late for school! I wonder how many times I was late for school? I went to school for 6 and a half hours if I read 13 books each hour by the end of school how many books have I read? After school I went to a forest. There were 13 trees.I stayed there for 3 hours. How many minutes did I stay in the forest? If every minute I saw 3 birds in each tree how many birds would I see in all after 3 hours?

I woke up at 5:01 a.m. and I even went to bed early last night. I read for 32 minutes. If I read a page and a half every minute, how many pages did I read? I had breakfast from 5:30 to 5:39. How many seconds was I eating breakfast? I went back to sleep for 1,800 seconds. How many minutes did I go back to sleep for?

I wake up at 6:28 [Does wake really go up?]. My bus leaves at 8:14 a.m., and I want to be on time. It takes me 5 min. to get up and get my clothes on and 7 to get downstairs. Next I play on the computer for 1 hour, then I hit my brother for 3min. Will I be on time? If so how much longer could I sleep?

I wake up at 7:36 a.m. Then I notice it's a school day. My dad didn't wake me up. I wondered how many times my dad didn't wake me up in my life. Then I went to my dad and it took me one minute to wake him up and 2 minutes and 17 seconds to brush my teeth. It takes me 30 minutes and 43 seconds to eat my breakfast. Then it takes me 7 minutes to take a bath and 3 minutes and 7 seconds to put on my clothes. It takes my dad 7 minutes and 33 seconds to do my hair. Then I run to get my jacket and my backpack with took me 32 seconds. Yep, I'm fast! :-) Then I ran to the bus which took me 49 seconds. What time is it?

My parents wake me up at 6:32a.m. It takes me 7 minutes to get ready. Hmmmm, I wonder how long does it take to start the olympics from the last olympics?

When I get to Great Escape. I eat snack for 20 minutes, but it's 7:30 a.m., and gym time starts at 8:00a.m. Do I have enough time?

If you add the people from the A.M and P.M Great Escape kids equals 122 children. What is the squareroot of 122?

It takes me 1 minute to go downstairs. It takes me 1 hour to play video games. It takes5 minutes to eat cereal, and 6 hours to save the world. If I wake up at 6:30am what time will I get home? If I have a 10 minute coffee break what time will I get home?

Marvelous Measurements

We have been working on measurements and read The Librarian Who Measured the Earth. What information did Eratosthenes need to measure the circumference of the earth? Then you may visit a fun measuring website to practice your measuring skills. Also visit interactive math sites for some online measuring fun! There are many to choose from.

The Math Curse

After reading The Math Curse, create your own math curse then try and solve one other curse in your group. Good luck!!

Here is an example from another 3rd grader:

Dear Gabrielle,

I figured out your math curse.

One morning I woke up at 7:21. It took me 2 minutes to get dressed. It took me 7 minutes to eat breakfast. It took me 9 minutes to get on the bus. It took the bus 10 minutes to pick up the children. It took 2 minutes to get to school. How much time is that in all?

Your answer is 30 minutes in all to do this.

From,
Jordan B.

Now try your own!!! Then when you are done creating your own math curse and responding to someone else's, visit the online math problems link below. See how many you can solve!
